A virtual tabletop for your first D&D session

Cartographer tools brings maps, character sheets, dice and supported 2014 rules together so a new party can learn while playing.

What does a virtual tabletop do?

A virtual tabletop gives the group a shared place to see the scene and act through their characters. In Cartographer tools, the map holds character tokens while floating panels keep health, actions, spells and dice nearby. Create a free account or sign in to explore the demo.

Start with the map and one character rather than trying every control at once. Move a token, open its panel, and find an action. That small loop explains most of what a new player needs during an encounter.

What the app handles

The app tracks initiative, resources and supported combat effects. Its rules are based on D&D 2014. Automation support is explicit: not every spell, homebrew feature or narrative situation is implemented. The GM handles unresolved effects and decisions about the fiction.

A good first-session setup

Agree who is running the game, choose a scene, and make sure each player can access the right character. A quick practice encounter helps everyone understand targeting and turn order before the story becomes demanding. Signing in gives access to saved campaigns; the guest demo is a separate practice space.

Quick steps

  1. Choose Try the demo on the homepage, then create an account or sign in.
  2. Select a character and inspect its actions.
  3. Practice moving, measuring and rolling.
  4. Sign in to join or create a saved campaign.
