How do I cast a spell or target an attack?

Everyone · Combat & spells · Updated

Select an action in your token menu, then choose a valid target or point on the map. The app checks range and applies supported mechanics according to the campaign’s automation mode.

Step by step

  1. Open your token’s Actions or Spells section and choose the action.
  2. Read the range, target requirements and any cast options shown.
  3. For a targeted use, click an eligible creature or point within range.
  4. For an area effect, use the preview to check where the area will land before confirming the cast.
  5. Review the result and remaining spell slots. Cantrips do not use spell slots.

Selecting versus simply rolling

Selecting an action arms it for map targeting. The double-click roll shortcut can show a roll without using the normal map-target selection. Do not treat a displayed roll as proof that every target’s sheet has been changed; check the result and the campaign’s automation setting.

Range and available slots

A valid automatic cast spends the required slot as part of the supported cast flow. Some spells offer further choices, such as a cast level or target list. Warlock pact slots and ordinary spell slots are not interchangeable in every case.

An out-of-range click cancels the armed action and clears its aim locally. Merely hovering or panning outside range does not cancel it. Select the action again when ready to try a different target.

When a result needs the GM

Unsupported, conditional or story-dependent effects can require a GM resolution. A spell description being present does not mean every part is automated. Chat only mode intentionally posts roll information without automatically spending resources or changing targets.
