How do initiative and turn permissions work?

Everyone · Combat & spells · Updated

The GM starts and advances initiative. Players can correct their own player-token scores, while the GM can correct any token’s score.

Step by step

  1. Open Turns to view the initiative panel.
  2. Use the roll control to roll initiative, or enter the scores you want to keep.
  3. Start with scores when the group wants to preserve the entered values.
  4. Click an editable initiative score, enter the correction and press Enter. Escape cancels an edit.
  5. The GM advances the turn order. Use the active-turn indicator before choosing an attack or spell.

Changing a score is not taking another turn

A correction reorders initiative while preserving the active token and round. Players can edit their own player tokens rather than other creatures. The GM can resolve mistakes across the encounter without restarting combat.

Actions during combat

If a player tries an attack or spell outside their turn, the app blocks it and shows that player a wait-for-your-turn notice. During a death-save turn, the downed character is restricted to that process. These controls do not replace every table ruling about reactions or unusual timing; ask the GM when a supported flow does not fit.

Outside initiative

An attempted attack outside combat goes to the GM for approval. The GM can decline, approve, or approve and roll initiative. If nothing seems to happen immediately, check whether the request is waiting for the GM instead of repeatedly sending the same action.
