How do I add a homebrew class or subclass?

Players & GM · Characters · Updated

You can build a subclass manually or prepare a class from a document, then review its features and level choices before using it.

Step by step

  1. Open the homebrew tools in character creation or the campaign’s Homebrew settings.
  2. Choose New subclass for the guided manual builder, or Import a class document for a full class.
  3. Confirm that the content is homebrew and that you have permission to process and share it.
  4. For a document, review the extracted text before choosing Create class draft.
  5. Check every level, feature, choice and resource, then mark the draft ready and save it.

Large files are prepared locally

Class PDFs and Word documents can be up to 50 MB; text and Markdown files can be up to 1 MB. Images, fonts and the original file stay on your device. Only the reviewed text is submitted when you explicitly request AI reading.

PDF preparation reads the whole document when it is within the 40-page limit. Longer documents need a page selection. The AI text limit is 60,000 characters; include the progression table and all features needed for the class.

AI prepares a draft, not a final rules ruling

Wait for the progress message and review the result carefully. The provider and available allowance are shown in the importer. A failed reading or an unavailable allowance does not prevent manual entry. The external AI reader is available from age 16.

Personal and shared homebrew

Players can use their personal subclasses immediately; the GM can share suitable entries with the campaign. Saved characters keep their selected version rather than being silently rewritten when a library entry changes. Official WotC rules documents and copied official rules text are excluded from this homebrew importer.
