How do I hide areas and set up dynamic lighting?
Fog hides areas you draw, while optional lighting limits each player’s view to their own tokens’ configured sight.
Step by step
- Open the GM menu and choose Fog & lighting.
- Draw a closed area to hide part of the scene, then reveal it when the party should see it.
- For dynamic lighting, enable lighting and choose the scene’s daylight or darkness setting.
- Trace the important walls and doors, then place light sources.
- Configure each token’s sight, darkvision and carried light, and use the GM preview to check the result.
Start with the important boundaries
You do not need to trace every decorative line. Begin with the walls that should block sight, the doors the party can open and the main light sources. Then test a token near a corner and doorway. Incorrectly placed walls can hide a room even when its artwork looks open.
Each player uses their own tokens
Players combine the sight of their own tokens rather than automatically sharing the entire party’s vision. Ordinary darkvision appears in grayscale outside the light, while lit regions retain colour. Sight settings are configured by the GM, not automatically guaranteed by a character’s ancestry.
Manual fog takes priority over lighting. A well-lit area can therefore remain hidden until the GM reveals it. Fog reveals use a fade where motion preferences allow it.
Know the privacy boundary
The app filters hidden creature details and relevant private game information. However, the map image is downloaded to the browser and visually masked. Fog is not a secure way to conceal sensitive information embedded inside the uploaded image itself.
