How do I add tokens, portraits and extra creature copies?

Everyone · Maps & tokens · Updated

A character sheet is reusable, while each token placed on the map has its own encounter state. Several rats can share a template without sharing damage.

Step by step

  1. Create or choose a character, then use Add token to place it on the map.
  2. Open the character’s identity/portrait settings to upload a picture.
  3. Choose an outline colour and save the character. The token displays the picture in a round frame.
  4. Place another copy when the GM needs another creature with the same sheet.
  5. Select a placed token and use Remove token, or Delete/Canc when the token is selected and you are not typing in a field.

Copies have independent health

Damage, concentration, conditions and spent resources belong to a placed token rather than all copies of the reusable sheet. Damaging one rat should not damage its neighbours. An area attack can affect several copies when they are actually included as targets.

Editing the underlying character sheet is different: copies still refer to that shared character definition. Use a separate character record if a copy should have different base statistics or equipment.

Names and permissions

Token names are readable on the shared table. A visible token name does not give other players access to its private sheet details. Players control their own characters and tokens; the GM can manage the encounter.

Removal versus permanent deletion

Removing a placed token takes that copy off the map. Delete from campaign is a separate permanent action that also removes the character sheet from that campaign. Read the confirmation so you do not delete a character you only wanted to move out of the scene.
