How do I line the grid up with my map?

GM · Maps & tokens · Updated

Grid alignment lets you resize and reposition the app’s squares without changing your map artwork.

Step by step

  1. Hover over or focus the grid button in the bottom toolbar. Choose Align grid.
  2. Use scrolling or the zoom gesture to resize the highlighted grid.
  3. Drag the map area to reposition the grid over the artwork.
  4. Use the arrow keys to nudge it, or + and − to adjust its size more precisely.
  5. Check several squares across the map, then choose Done to save. Use Cancel or Escape to discard the draft.

Calibrate before the encounter

Choose an obvious corner or straight corridor as a starting point. Match the overlay there, then check a distant corner. If the lines drift farther apart across the image, the square size still needs adjustment; if they are consistently displaced, move the grid.

During alignment, gestures adjust the grid rather than your normal map view. Finish or cancel alignment before trying to navigate normally again.

Understand the distance scale

The control shows 5 ft / square. A printed map marked “one square = 10 feet” needs two app squares per printed square if you want the distances to agree. Grid calibration changes spacing and offset; it is not a switch that changes the feet-per-square rule.

Each map keeps its alignment

Save the calibration for the selected map. Other maps keep their own settings. The grid toggle controls whether the overlay is shown; hiding the overlay does not turn the underlying distance system into a new scale.
