Spell slots, range and targeting in Cartographer tools
Find a spell, inspect its range, choose targets, and let supported automation handle the relevant costs and outcomes.
Read the spell before aiming
The character’s Spells section brings spell information and available slots together. Inspect the spell and its range before choosing a target. A range preview is a planning aid; displaying it does not cast the spell or spend a slot.
Choose a valid target
The app validates targeting when an action is committed. An out-of-range click cancels the armed action locally, clearing its aim instead of sending a combat or approval request. Hovering or panning outside the range does not cancel it.
For some area spells, the clicked point chooses direction rather than a distant target. This is why a range guide should follow the spell’s actual targeting rules rather than treating every action as the same kind of circle.
Know which automation mode is active
In Automatic mode, supported casts commit costs and effects together. Chat only mode posts the action information without spending slots or changing target state. Unsupported and conditional mechanics still need resolution. Before correcting a result manually, check which mode was active so the group does not apply the same cost or damage twice.
Quick steps
- Open the character’s Spells section.
- Inspect range, slots and spell details.
- Choose the target or area.
- Review the outcome before any manual adjustment.
