Character sheets versus token state: what is saved where?
A reusable character sheet describes the character; a placed token holds the changing health, conditions and resources of a particular game.
Separate identity from current circumstances
Class, ability scores and written features belong to the character’s sheet. Current injuries, concentration and many spent resources belong to the placed token. This separation lets the app represent a character in a campaign without turning a temporary event into a permanent character definition.
Why it matters during editing
Changing a reusable sheet is different from adjusting a token’s HP. If a character appears more than once, do not assume that changing one token’s current condition should rewrite every appearance. Equipment and active effects also have their own calculations and checks.
For example, an armour-related AC change needs to account for an active protective spell rather than simply adding both numbers together.
Check ownership before collaboration
Players should use their own characters and tokens. The GM has broader campaign controls, while private resources and spell details remain restricted. Sharing a scene does not mean sharing every detail of every character. When something looks inconsistent, first identify whether you are editing the reusable sheet, a placed token, or a temporary effect.
Quick steps
- Identify the character and its placed token.
- Edit permanent choices in the sheet.
- Adjust current health and conditions on the token.
- Check effects before changing derived totals.
